About Coventry Kerala Community

Coventry Kerala Community a common platform for people of all walks of life and faiths who live in and around Coventry and Warwickshire. More than 350 families from Kerala live in Coventry and nearby towns of Warwick, Leamington and Rugby. They are engaged in many diverse professions; practise different religions and various sects in the same religion; are members of a number of local social or family groups; follow diverse passions and hold differing views of life. Despite all these, they are bound by a common thread, Coventry Kerala Community.

CKC is committed to promote Kerala art and culture with various activities conducted from time to time. We conduct various inter area / zone wise competitions of dance, music, and sports. CKC members have contributed and donated generously to fund-raising activities during natural calamities both national and international.

The founding of the association goes back to 2004, when the small number of families living in Coventry and nearby areas at the time, felt the need for occasional get together and socialising. It grew, in terms of membership and strength and in 2007 was formally registered as an association. In 2016, CKC gained the status of a registered charity.

about
about

CKC plays a pivotal role in the social life of Malayalees in Coventry. It provides a common platform to socialise, a forum to air the views and concerns of members regarding various issues and has always made significant efforts to celebrate the social, cultural, linguistic and literary heritage of Kerala.

For all of us, CKC makes Coventry a home away from home.

  1. At the General Body Meeting held on 6th June, 2025, a new organising committee was elected for the next term. Mr Babu Abraham Kalapurackal, the newly elected President of our CKC had a vision to go paperless for sustainability. He also felt the need to update our CKC website. As part of the ongoing change, we have ensured that our members can register or donate online via the website. We have tried to make this experience as seamless as possible. The aim of our Malayalee cultural community in the UK typically centers around several key objectives.
  2. Preserving Culture and Heritage: To maintain and promote the rich cultural heritage, traditions, and values of Kerala among the Malayalee diaspora. 2. Community Support: Providing a support network for Malayalees, including newcomers, by helping them adapt to life in the UK while retaining their cultural identity.
  3. Education and Awareness: Educating younger generations about their cultural roots, language (Malayalam), and traditions through cultural programs, language classes, and community events.
  4. Social and Cultural Events: Organizing festivals, arts performances, and cultural events such as Onam, Vishu, and traditional dance and music showcases to celebrate and share Malayalee culture.
  5. Integration and Contribution: Facilitating the integration of the Malayalee community into broader British society while encouraging contributions to the local community and fostering multicultural understanding.
  6. Charity and Welfare Activities: Engaging in charity work and welfare activities to support both the local community in the UK and those in need back in Kerala.
  7. Networking and Professional Development: Creating opportunities for professional networking and development among Malayalees in various fields. These objectives help the community stay connected to their roots while thriving in a new cultural and social environment.
